University of Glasgow seeking volunteers with Ulcerative Colitis

Researchers at the University of Glasgow are seeking volunteers for their study.

Researchers are currently recruiting participants living across Scotland to take part in a nutrition study testing a new diet for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis.

They are looking for adults (≥16 years old) with Ulcerative Colitis currently in remission and on a stable dose of medication for at least 2 months. This study assesses if a diet high in fibre, fermented foods, and berries (the "UC-TREAT" diet) can improve the bacteria living in the gut, since studies show that gut bacteria may play a role in the onset and severity of ulcerative colitis.

This study lasts for around 1 month, where participants will be asked to follow the "UC-TREAT" diet for 2 weeks. Throughout this time, we ask participants to collect poo and urine samples on 4 occasions at home. Participants will also need to visit the research unit at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary on 3 separate occasions to answer questionnaires and provide a small sample of blood. You must live in Scotland to take part in this study.

All travel expenses incurred during travel to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary will be reimbursed, and participants will receive £100 in shopping vouchers on completion of the study.

If you or anyone you know has Ulcerative Colitis currently in remission, and are interested in taking part in research, please contact the researchers directly at [email protected]"
